Nestled in the misty mountains of northern Fujian, Jianyang is one of the historic birthplaces of Chinese white tea. As early as the Song Dynasty, teas from this region were offered as imperial tribute—giving rise to the name “Gong Mei,” meaning “Tribute Eyebrow.”
Far from bustling cities, Jianyang’s tea mountains are surrounded by pristine forests and nourished by mountain springs. The region’s mild subtropical climate, abundant rainfall, and mineral-rich soils create ideal conditions for tea bushes with rich inner substances and a naturally gentle sweetness.
Unlike many modern tea-growing areas, Jianyang preserves the traditional sun-withering process. Freshly picked leaves are allowed to dry slowly under natural airflow and sunlight, with minimal human intervention. This method retains the tea’s original vitality and layered complexity, resulting in a cup that is bright, clean, and quietly expressive.
Compared to white teas from Fuding, Zhenghe, or Yunnan, Jianyang white tea is known for its elegance and purity rather than boldness—less sharp, less grassy, and more composed.
Gong Mei occupies a unique position between Bai Mu Dan (White Peony) and Shou Mei, both in leaf maturity and flavor structure.
It is crafted from:
This balance gives Gong Mei a rounded mouthfeel, gentle structure, and excellent aging potential. Over time, the liquor deepens in color and complexity, revealing new layers—the quiet gift of time.
No. Gong Mei is naturally gentle. When brewed as recommended, it has only a soft hint of astringency that quickly turns into sweetness. It is forgiving even for beginners.
Gong Mei pairs well with heartier foods and snacks such as dried fruits, nuts, creamy cakes, jerky, roasted vegetables, and everyday home-style meals. Its fuller body and mellow sweetness make it especially comforting after meals.
White tea is best enjoyed during warm or humid days, rainy weather, or whenever you feel mentally tired or emotionally unsettled and want something gentle rather than stimulating.
Yes. Gong Mei has good aging potential. Over time, the flavor becomes deeper and more rounded. Store it in a cool, dry place away from strong odors for best results.
Very much so. Its smooth character, flexible brewing, and approachable price make it an excellent introduction to Chinese white tea.
(*This tea does not promise to change your body. It simply offers a quiet moment for you to listen to it.)
