— For the teas almost forgotten, and the people who still remember —
It began with a quiet village
— and one unforgettable cup of tea
In the misty mountains of Quzhou, Zhejiang, we found ourselves in a tiny village named Peijiadi, tucked away 800 meters above sea level. No more than 20 families live there, surrounded by silence, tea trees, and time.
There, we tasted a rare green tea called Green Peony-also known as Xianxia Tea. Delicate, wild, and pure, it once won national awards and was even praised by the poet Su Dongpo a thousand years ago.
But now, almost no one remembers it.
As bigger tea industries grew, villagers were encouraged to cut down their native tea trees and plant more -marketable- ones. Slowly, Green Peony faded-from fields, from cups, from memory.
We left that day with a lingering aroma on our tongues-and a quiet commitment in our hearts: This should not be lost.
Across China, many native tea cultivars are vanishing.
Not because they lack quality.
But because they don’t fit the mainstream.
We believe:
- The rarest teas carry the deepest stories.
- A diverse tea world is a healthier, more soulful one.
- Every choice we make — every cup we pour — can be part of the change.
What we’re doing
We created the Minor Tea Variety Protection Plan to support and protect rare, native tea cultivars like Green Peony.
(*Minor tea varieties refer to tea cultivars that have low market recognition, or whose breeding and production are gradually declining due to factors such as climate change, terrain challenges, and human activities.)
Here’s how it works:
At the heart of this plan is a belief we hold deeply:
Diversity makes the world richer
—in flavor, in culture, in life.
We don’t just protect rare tea varieties.
We celebrate difference.
We choose the quiet flavors, the forgotten stories, the uncommon paths.
Because we believe: A tea world with more voices, more roots, and more stories is a better one — for all of us.
You are part of this
When you choose a rare tea from us,
you’re not just choosing flavor.
You’re choosing to support the unseen,
the nearly-forgotten, the deeply-rooted.
You’re keeping trees in the ground.
You’re helping a farmer pass down a tradition.
You’re reminding the world that small still matters.
When you drink from diversity, you help it thrive.
Thank you for choosing tea with meaning.

The picture captures a few lesser-known tea varieties that, like Green Peony, are quietly fading with time. Each leaf holds a story, a fragrance, a moment worth remembering. In the days ahead, Teaviews will gently share these rare treasures with you — one cup at a time.
