Origin of variety
Taiping Houkui thrives in Huangshan District at the northern foot of Huangshan Mountain, Anhui. With low temperatures, high humidity, and fertile soil, the tea gardens are often veiled in a misty, ethereal haze. Picked meticulously following the “Four Selections and Eight Exclusions” principle, and processed through traditional methods like fixing and roasting, the tea develops a unique blend of orchid and roasted chestnut aromas.
The tea leaves of Taiping Houkui are straight and flat, slightly pointed at both ends, like little soldiers standing in perfect formation. Dusted with fine white hairs, it’s hailed as the “tall, rich, and handsome” of green teas. When brewed, the flat and straight leaves stand upright in the cup, and the clear tea liquor releases an instant burst of orchid fragrance, as if capturing the essence of a spring garden. One sip reveals a fresh, mellow taste with a hint of sweetness.
